The Club Name by Dougie Hunter

I first came up with the idea of the club name during early discussions with my local councillor Dave King back in February 2005.  I spoke to Dave to find out information regarding the park at Oakbank and whether I could start a new football club in the Calder’s area.  After a positive meeting and support from West Lothian Council Sport & Leisure Department and West Lothian Soccer Sevens Committee I was able to make plans to firmly establish a new football club at Oakbank in time for the big kick off for season 2005/06. Here is a brief piece of information regarding what’s behind the club name.

‘’Calderwood’’, is an ancient beautiful woodland near Mid Calder where I have walked my Irish Setters on a daily basis for many years. The wood begins at Oakbank next to the teams home Football Park and stretches all the way to the other side of Almondell Country Park near to Broxburn.  I felt that the name Calder was important to have within the team name as Oakbank is virtually in between the villages of Mid Calder (1 mile from our park) and East Calder (half a mile from our park). I therefore came up with the name Oakbank of Calderwood!!

The Club Badge

Every player in the team was tasked with designing a club badge for the team in September 2006 and all entries were then submitted to the panel late October to select the winning design. Nobody on the panel knew who the artists were and in the end we were absolutely delighted with the winning design from a super entry put forward.

The official club badge features 2 players (in Orange) and a coach (in the middle of the two players shown in Royal) with the Scottish saltire in the background and a ball.  The words “Oakbank of Calderwood F.C. - Pride of West Lothian – est 2005” appear inside the circular shape of the crest.  The outer circle has an orange border.  The badge colours represent the official club colours and the teams home and away strips Royal and Orange.

The player described his piece of art in his own words as “We are a friendly team who are very much together – Players and coaches” He went on to say “the coaching team are right behind every player and very supportive when it comes to coaching every player in our team” hence he gave this reason for producing this design!  It’s amazing what kids think off when given a task like this!
